My laptop has not been on for a while and when i got on it a little while ago everything including video pictures everything was wiped. and when i was logging in it said "preparing desktop." so what does all this mean? what do I need to do? How can I get all this back? please help. thanks.

its look like that ur laptop was either formetted or old user account was deleted & new account was created...............
there is only one way
download & install software called data recovery which can generates files which was kept in ur hard disk & deleted later..........
but this is very slow

You get "Preparing Desktop" when you just installed Windows and logging in for the first time. If you cannot find your stuff on your computer, and got no backups, then sorry, no way to get them back.
