I have seen many questions regarding?
I've seen many questions regarding divorce as well as child support/custody/visitation. I'm wondering if these people actually READ the papers before they sign them since the questions they ask have to deal with what the court orders actually say...questions about custodial parent moving, questions about age of child when child support ends...Why don't these people READ these before they sign them, they are legal and binding contracts. Can it be that there are that many people out there who don't know how to read or have little/no reading comprehension?
To Dani, in the U.S. a couple who divorces has to have a final decree of divorce to prove it. If not then they are not divorced and if they enter into an intimate relationship with someone else they are committing adultery against the marriage they have with each other. No final decree of divorce signed by a judge, equals no divorce, and they can't marry someone else in the U.S. with out that decree. So those agreements your parents have won't go far in a court of law.
To Eldon...it doesn't take much to ask someone to explain the jargon in divorce paperwork, having gone through a divorce myself all it took was asking my lawyer what in "human" terms all that jargon meant and she explained it to me. You can also contact law schools and have students give you help (for a nominal fee). But you have to ASK first.
To Silver Fox...So what you are saying is that pride equals stupdity?
Justjokin...I've been divorced and I know that in order to get a final decree of divorce BOTH parties HAVE to sign ALL of the papers even for "non-contested" divorces. If they aren't signed there is no divorce. And both parties get certified copies of the papers regardless of contested-non contested.
To truffle...I DID read my divorce/custody/visitation/support papers. Funny thing having read them, re read them and had the parts I didn't understand...I have never had any questions because anything I quesitoned I would go back and read over that portion of my final decree. Color yourself DUH huh?
