will i get in trouble for cashing checks from my car insurance without fixing my car?

my uninsured motorist coverage covered a hit and run accident i was in. my car insurance cut me a check. i'd like to get my car fixed, but i'm broke right now and could really use the money for other things. if i cash the check and spend it on something other than my car, is it fraud? will i get in trouble?

I've not heard of anyone getting in trouble for this. But if you get in another accident and file a claim, the insurance company may require proof that you've actually fixed you car since the previous accident. I know this cause a friend got into 2 accidents within a couple of months and the 2nd claims agent wanted the name of the auto shop to verify the car was fixed after the 1st accident.

If you buy from a dealer you will get a 28 day hand back guarantee ( if the car is faulty not fit for purpose or non roadworthy) then you are covered by the sale of goods act 1979. So before you commit take someone with you like someone who knows about cars, you could get the RAC or the AA to inspect it but they charge about £120. Going by the description it sounds good and has been well looked after, but for £600 you can not expect too much. To be honest if you like the car buy it then take it to an MOT tester just to put your mind at rest, best be safe than sorry and see what it needs, you could be very surprised and it could have a clean bill of health, if it fails on anything serious take it back to the dealer to see if he will pay towards any of the serious repairs as they are obliged to put it right as they will have broke the sale of goods act 1979 otherwise. Go for it sounds like a good car

They Already Covered Your Insurance Claim By Giving You The Check Wether You Fix It or Dont Its Up To You

No, unless you know the insurance agent personally. A tree limb fell on my aunts car and she turned it into the insurance company and the gave her a check for $2,801. Well, she cashed the check and spent it on other things just as you want/need to do. My adice to you would be to fix the car, because other problems could come out of a minor problem that may need fixed later in life. But, its your choice, and no you will not get in trouble.
