OH YES! reliable as the day is long. They have been building engines for farm equipment since the days of Henry Ford. The only problem is they have had a history of mis management in their Automotive ventures causing the original company to founder thus---Parts are a real pain to find.

In their day, they were very reliable engines and a very reliable brand of farm tractors. The highest rated brand in the fifties and sixties. My Dad owned an International Scout Travelall wagon, an Internataional Pickup, and an International Truck. If International had made a car, he would have owned one of them also.

The degree of safety and reliability of any vehicle, regardless of mileage is how the vehicle was maintained prior to your ownership. A well maintained vehicle can easily last over 200K miles, even an older vehicle such as the one you're speaking about.

It is unrealistic to expect a 30 year old engine to be reliable.

However it must be a good engine to have lasted 30 years.
