Has anyone on here found a satisfying personal relationship using a dating website like Y! Personals?

My sister did about 3 years ago. She had dated several losers, then decided to close her account after one more date. The guy turned out to be someone I had gone to high school with, but about whom I don't remember a thing. They are still together, making plans.

I would like to find someone to have a relationship with, but I don't get out much and only travel in circles where I am already welcome. Should I date online, or resign myself to random serendipity?

Sorry about the "faux pas". I should have been more specific.

You don't date online, you chat online. Dating sites are to meet people online for eventual offline dates. There is no actual 'dating' that occurs online.

I use Match.com and have met some kewl folks. I've had friends who met their significant others our spouse online over the years. I've had some really great experiences myself, although no long term partner yet. I have met some of my best offline friends online (initially) though.

Give it a shot...with so many people online these days, it's silly not to make use of the internet as a tool to meet people. Some of the folks I've met and really liked, were ones in my local area but that I might never have crossed paths with otherwise, because we didn't go to a lot of the same places.

Good luck!

Most online dating relationships don't work out. I have heard from some friends that they know some couples who end up getting married and having a family. Good on them.

For me personally, I just use online website to have a browse and see what's out there, but not necessarily want to meet anybody online, mostly because I have chatted to some strange and weird people. Also, the online dating idea still hasn't sat too well for me.

Anyway, have you tried speed dating? It's worth a try. It feels more natural than online dating. You get to me over 10 guys in one night, which means you have a higher chance of finding someone you are compatible with. Have a browse on some websites in your local area, there might be some events near you.
