What do you think about the legal drinking age being 21?

Do you think that by making the drinking age higher or lower than what now is legal, we could decrease the amount of underage drinkers, drinking and driving, or alchoholism in our country? Please add the reason why you think the way you do and give me your age. Thx:)

I think the drinking age should be 18. If you're old enough to serve in the military, enter into legal contracts and are in general, considered an adult, you should be able to buy and consume alcohol. I don't think it will do anything to help us curb the problem of too much drinking or drunk driving, but I still think all adults should be able to drink.

I'm 57

Lowering the legal drinking age would definatly not decrease the amount of underage drinkers, drinking and driving, or alcoholism. In fact, they lowered the legal age to 18 a few decades ago because of the war, and the numbers of all three of those categories jumped much higher than they already were. That's why they raised it back up. It should stay where it is, because 21 is an acceptable age.

Here in Massachusetts I had just turned 18 when they lowered the drinking age to 18, and I thought it was way cool to be able to walk into a bar and ask for anything I pleased. Massachusetts lowered the drinking age because if you could join the Marines at 17 (with parent's consent) and go out and fight in a war, then you should be able to have a drink. I joined the Navy when I was 18.

But now that I'm in my mid-50s, and realize that wisdom comes with age, I don't think the drinking age at 21 is such a bad idea.

Don't be in such a hurry to grow up!

the particularly some legislatures of the particularly some states desperate to enact rules that make it unlawful to drink alcoholic beverages below the age of 21. This grew to become into performed below duress of the federal government to standardize ingesting rules for the duration of the U. S.. If the states did no longer enact the regulation, federal monies could be withheld from that state. The criminal age for balloting is eighteen, you could enter the militia service at 18 with out parental consent (17 with parental consent). you need to sign up for selective service once you turn 18 years of age once you're a male (yet no longer sign up in any respect once you're a woman). All of those distinctive courses have a reason at the back of the a while that have been enacted into regulation. attempting to evaluate them is like evaluating apples and oranges--they do no longer look to be the comparable subject.
