Is the GO Train Safe?

My parent believes that it is not safe for me a 16 year old guy to take the GO Train from Pickering to Oakville. If you could list some reasons why it is safe and how I can make the trip more safe for myself that would be great. Thanks.

PS: person with the best or most reasons will earn the ten points as best answer.

The Go train is safe. Like anywhere, there are always the occasional risk of something happening, but the go train has access to the support to deal with most situations.

There may be some.. "interesting" people on the train, but it's perfectly fine.

To make is safer.. just keep an active eye out. Most trouble/problems you can notice before they become a problem. The wheelchair accessible car (which is always the fifth car from the locomotive) *always* has a train crew member present. The only time that one is not there, is if he has to quickly move to another car for something.

I would suggest you talk with your parents about why they think it is not safe. More often then not, you can work things out if you are respectful to their point of view.

The GO train is extremely safe. I would allow an 11-year-old girl to ride by herself, let alone a capable 16-year-old man!
By the time I was 13 I was taking the train all over the place by myself.
I live in Montreal, and our equivalent to the GO is called AMT. I started taking it to school every day when I was only 12.

There is very little risk of being in an accident. Trains are the safest mode of transportation. 100 times safer than driving!
The type of people who use the train are generally quite civilized and you don't have worry about being mugged or anything, especially considering your age.
I assume most of your friends take the train. Most people your age are very familiar with the GO trains and TTC subway system. It seems quite weird that your parents wouldn't want you taking the train.
Especially considering you'd only be taking the train way out in the suburbs, you wouldn't even be approaching the "dangers" of downtown Toronto!

I can't see any possible risk in taking a GO train other than getting fined if you don't have a ticket!

Please excuse me, but your parents sound very over-protective of you and frankly quite stupid.

Statistically, it's safer than driving.
