DSLR help anyone? Which one, which one...?

I'm looking to buy a new camera. As of now I'm still with my pop's old Olympus SLR and I'm looking to go digital for a halfway decent price.
SO here's where I am:
Olympus E520
or
Pentax k2000

Which would be alright for someone just going digital, but would grow well with the user?

and are infrared remotes available for both?

I've found both for a more reasonable price than a Rebel.
I'm on a VERY tight budget sadly; gotta pay for college and whatnot.

These are both probably good cameras and may serve you well.

However, for the same $$, I own and recommend the Canon Rebel XS for several reasons including Canon's wonderful reputation for fine equipment that lasts a long time. The build is superb and so are the photos. The camera is very easy to learn and operate.

Look here for some stuff from my Canon. Read my notes please because not all are from my Canon, some done with my Fuji.

Consider Sony, thses are very cheap cameras but have very good IQ. More lens support aswell, from makers like sigma and tamron.

From those 2 model I would suggest Olympus E520
