GE Cooktop JP655BM--how hot does the bottom get?

I plan on installing this above some existing pull-out drawers. The bottom of the unit will be within 1" of the top of the drawers. GE says allow 5" but I don't think it's really required. I think they build in a safety factor of 2 or 3 in these applications. Knowing the heat range would help with my decision.

Thanks!

You gotta allow room for maintenance.
permanently remove the drawers and put faux fronts in their place.
