Religious Influence on Adoption?

I am looking for birth parents and adoptive parents that were motivated by religious ideals either to relinquish or to adopt. Please tell me what religion influenced you and how it influenced you. Were you counseled by a pastor, priest, bishop or family/friends within your church to relinquish? Did you feel "called" to adopt? If you are considering adoption or relinquishing, how is religion playing in your decision? If the deed is done, how do you feel about the influence religion played in it?

Paradise, "relinquish" is one of many terms in the area of adoption that can be emotionally loaded, but there aren't a whole lot of ways to say it without pushing someone's button.

I have two adopted children. I'm agnostic. My husband and I actually had trouble adopting in the USA because so many birth mothers and adoption agencies really play up the religion issue.

But it seems to me, that if religion was really effective, some of these young people wouldn't be finding themselves in a predicament to relinquish a child.

I think it was catholisism (?) and a father that would be a bad influence (and the fact that i was fatehered by a black guy) that made her give me up. Thinking she could not find another partner soon as well and did not want to or feel she could take care of me alone. (especially with kid)// It is probably why she gave up for abortion vs adoption and the times..

My parents were Christian (protestant) but it was motivated by not being able to have children,.

I want to adopt... and I'm an atheist.

Unfortunately there are many private agencies that will only allow Christians to adopt.

I think that's kind of sad for someone to of had to be "motivated" by religion to adoption. Adoption should be done out of love, and not due to a silly book of fables.

Here's one for you...
My Christian (Lutheran) biological father abandoned my mother when he got her pregnant. I'd be curious to hear how this would be acceptable in his religion. And furthermore, my dad who is non-religious, took me in as his own when I was born.
