Definitely LinkSys. I've had one for about 5 years now, and not a single problem with it.
I've used Netgear and D-Link, my routers usually fail after a year and require wired connections. My parents Linksys WRT-54g is running for years now like a tank. I'd suggest Linksys, but do your research online to make sure the model you get doesnt have problems. You may need to pick up a range extender to boost the signal if you're still having problems.
None of those give out more than 100mw (20dbm). If fact many of those give out about half that power. If it's power you want - it "may" help, you have to look for third party routers like: https://www.demarctech.com/products/reliawave-rwr/rwr-hpg-i.htm
That give up to 250mw in G mode (630mw in "B" mode). However, they are sometimes limited to only one or two ethernet ports, depending on the vendor and model.
External antennas "may" help also, if you want to focus the signal in one direction (at the expense of other directions). Also sometimes playing with the antenna orientation helps. Keep the router away from walls and any metal....
There are a lot of factors affecting your signal strength and speed, not just power or antenna. Most "N" models will give better distance, but only if connecting in "N" mode. Using a 5.8Ghz router (usually "N") will perform different too. Interference is also a big factor - change your channel to 1 or 11 instead of the default 6. Do a "site survey" to see what channels are in use in the area, and pick one that is less used and has weaker signals from others. (the router mentioned above will do a site survey for you)
I have heard the new Linksys 802.11n series routers are pretty good, and they are inexpensive for an N router. Netgear I really haven't had that much experience with, and D-Link's customer service is really terrible. I personally use USRobotics wireless products, and they work great.
I have a linksys WRT54G2,it is cheap, works excellent in a house with many, many, walls.I also believe buying an expensive router with many features to be used with a modem from your ISP that is s--t,makes no sense.
