What is the maximum time a man should spend in jail for child support?

Do you think a man should repeatedly spend a year in jail for child support when he has a wife and other children at home? What should be the maximum sentence?

Well... he certainly can't be sending any money if he isn't working. On the other hand, I suppose he should stay in jail as long as it takes for him to realize he has responsibilities he needs to address. How long would you want him to stay in jail if he wasn't sending you support?

I dont believe putting a man in jail for missed support is the right solution at all, think about it, if a man is in jail he 1)isn't working, so no way to pay support this way and 2)could loose his job (if he had one)

Instead, I believe that if the man has a job, and after trying a child support worker has exhausted communication, the employer should be called and his wages should be automatically garnished, If you wanna renew your licence you cant tell you've made back payments or some kind of agreement, and I think your assets should be sold off

If the guy doenst work, you cant get blood from a stone, so the way I see it, if the guy is a dead beat, hes a dead beat, and if the guy is neglecting to pay because he simply cant afford it, there should be other avenues to pursue other then jail for the sake of him keeping and mainting employment (no one wins if he gets fired)

In most states now if the non custodial parent does not pay child support then they loose their drivers license...but its not only dead beat dads it moms too...and if they are put in jail for it it is usually up to the judge how long they will spend in jail and if they are then dhhr (welfare) will pick up were the dead beat dad/mom is not paying or if they are not put in jail they will loose all of their income tax to pay back the child support to the parent who has custody or to the state ....

But nothing can be done if it is not taken back to your local Family Court and presented to the Judge.....

I feel a REAL man pays the support. If it was up to me....A year for every month not paid, and retroactive until the entire payment is made reguardless of the child's age...An obligation is an obligation....
I even think that if a man makes no payments, the child turns 18 he STILL needs to make ALL PAST PAYMENTS

They should require the man to work for the state cleaning up trash on the roads, etc, pay him and give 90% of his income to pay off the child support.
