Its standard practise in all news stories. The term "alleged" is used until the trial is complete.
If you don't do that then jury bias could result in a mistrial. And you don't want that.

the reason that the information and different components say that Maj Nidal Malik Hasan is the alleged shooter is with the help of the fact, each and each time television courses are discussing a criminal offense, they might desire to apply the belief of "harmless till shown to blame". even nonetheless Hasan would have committed the crime, and there could be a good number of evidence for that, till a courtroom says that he did, the information likes to play it secure. in the event that they do no longer, and it appears that evidently he did no longer do it, then they might probably be sued for a super volume of funds. So, asserting that somebody is an alleged killer isn't politically appropriate. it is the thank you to steer away from getting sued if issues finally end up in a various way than you assume.

At first it struck me the same way. But once the shock then rage subsided a bit and deliberate reason was again available. I came to the conclusion,as many of the other answerer's did also. Certainly and uniquely, a "Presumption of Innocence" is a fundamental component of our American form of justice. However the truest/best reason, I couldn't have stated any better than answerer *Thalia* Only to add. It's a multilayer C.Y.A.& Cover Our asses too, tactic required of the cowardly "talking heads" by the "bean counters"in the legal division back at Media corporate.

Because US law, even US Military law, considers the accused to be innocent until proven guilty. That was the case with Sirhan Sirhan, who was caught in the act of murdering Bobby Kennedy, even though the act was caught on TV and Roosevelt Greer took him down during the act of shooting.
I like our justice system better than the ones run under Napoleonic law, where you are guilty until proven innocent.

I agree with you. You could say he is an "alleged murderer" but he is clearly the shooter. Murder being a legal charge and he could somehow be innocent of charges. But seriously, "shooter" is a safe label.
