Do mechanics ever accept deferred payment plans.?
My usual guy doesn't, and I was too embarrassed to ask if anyone else does. Basically, I have an expensive repair to make on my car, which I cannot afford in one lump sum.

we own a mechanic shop and i can tell you that yes..in certain cases we are willing to give a payment plan.however several times we try to help people and then they try to run so we end up repoing the car and collect the money from you or if you dont pay we do a mechanic lean and get paid from your loaner

The chances are slim of finding something like that, especially just walking in and asking. But you could try offering them some sort of collateral. If the repair is $400 offer them something for $600. I have a place where I live that lets me make payments on car repairs, but he wants 50% up front and he is also a family acquaintance as we have brought all of our work to him for about 10 years. So you could also try something like that....pay as much as you can and ask if you can have an extra couple weeks to pay the rest. And you would probably have to go to some private owned, home town mechanic to even do that, because places that are a chain, Tuffy, Belle Tire etc wont be able to do that.
