External hard drive problems....?

I have a windows xp machine and I also have a external hard drive connected at all times to this machine. one day the computer crashed and then I was not able to access the hard drive contents after the crash. an error message would occur that said volume is corrupted. I check the properties of the hard drive and its saying that there is no data on the hard drive. (this computer doesnt have a virus.)
i installed partition table doctor and tried to recover it and when you hit browse contents from partition doctor software all the files are present. I tried running check disk and nothing fixes it. so I decided to plug the external hard drive to my windows 7 pc to see if I can fix it there. as soon as i plug it in a message pops ups saying please run check disk on this device. before I ran it I open the my computer and i was able to access the hard drive. so I ran check disk and 4 hours later it was done it worked fine on my windows 7 pc but still cannot get it to work on my windows xp machine. I ran check disk on my windows xp hard drives and still doesnt fix the problem. xp says access denied, file system is corrupted. but it works fine on windows 7 pc.... anyone have any ideas?

What I would do,connect the drive to 7 and transfer all your data there.Move the drive to the XP computer and format it.If you get an error message during format or before do the format on the windows 7 computer. After you're done move back the data and try again on the XP computer.

wow..

this is a big problem my friend.! look when your computer crashed the external harddrive corrupted that means it crashed while you were syncing something.! so the stupid harddrive thinks he can save himself by not letting you open now it is hard to get it back DO NOT FORMAT IT if you do ummm we will loose iraqie war so dont,

you gotta reestore with a software that means get the image back theres many software out there good luck
