Why does my copy of Modern Warfare 2 critical error ALL THE TIME?

Ok so I bought MW2, anticipating it will be a great game (which it is) despite the lack of dedicated servers...and I have been playing it for a total of 16 hours. In those 16 hours, I have gotten an "unrecoverable error" 7 times to date. When this happens, I am forced to hit the power button on my computer and restart. Then it takes about 10 minutes to get back in gear. Anyone have similar problems or suggestions?

I have DirectX 9c and I am running it on Windows XP Service Pack 3.
