Just watched Kessler v. Ward?

I really don't see where all the complaining was coming from - Ward wasn't swining his head around like Bernard Hopkins or anything like that. Kessler's corner didn't even say anything until like the 8th round.

Ward just beat him, he beat him basically every round - Kessler didn't appear to have any secret plan to catch him later in the fight, in fact, it looked like he was ready to wrap it up after 7 rounds - the interpreter was hard to follow, but someone is Kessler's corner said they wanted to stop the fight, and whether it was Kessler or not, he just didn't look like he wanted much more after that.

Ward is going to be tough for anyone in the field because of his agility and technical ability - he doesn't throw one punch power, but he hits hard enough to let the other guy know he's there. Kessler felt his power and didn't just walk through it, it stopped him and backed him up.

Kessler can definitley still be a force in this tournament, but he really has to focus on being able to adjust and fighting in close quarters. I think Froch's awkward style could give him a lot of trouble unless he is able to make adjustments during the fight.

- Elmer, he didn't look all that wreckless, he was actually landing some bigger shots down the stretch. He had the left straight arm out, lining up right hands (ala Larry Holmes, who I know you are a fan of), he was digging inside and landing as Kessler was backed up. I don't know, it looked like a pretty spectacular performance, he may have been chasing the KO, but he wasn't all that wreckless, Kessler still couldn't land anything with Ward being aggressive.

I think anyone who is complaining is a Kessler fan. The headbutts did not dictate the fight. they did happen and they never looked intentional. And I never heard any complaints about them until later and by that time the fight was already decided UNLESS Kessler pulled off a late one punch KO (which could have happened with Wards lowly held left.
I honestly found 3 rounds to give Kessler.Kessler had a plan A that he thought Ward would not be able to handle but Wards plan A was better than his and he never adjusted. Ward followed the blueprint Calzaghe gave him in 2007 and it worked. Kessler was saying he could not see...his corner seemed like they were interested in stopping it but no one wanted to be the one to call it.
Ward has proven that he is an elite boxer (especially at 168). His amateur experience obviously made up for whatever he lacked as professional. He is a skilled fighter with great speed for 168.
Kessler still is dangerous, and is probably capable of beating everyone else in the tourney but Ward. he showed no ability to adjust to Wards style (as he did in the Calzaghe fight)...it seems speed, skilled movement and work rate is what beats him. I'm certain Ward could repeat this performance against him. Ward is a legit star in the sport going forward.

I can't believe I'm saying this but I actually completely agree with Elmer on this one. All the headbutts by Ward weren't intentional, but the way he attacked shows that he does not care where his head lands. I know some smaller aggressive fighters would usually duck while throwing upper hooks, but you don't have to swing your head along with it. Ward obviously showed no concern for his opponent's health.

Btw, I'm not a Kessler fan, and I believe Ward was the overall better fighter that night. W/ or w/out headbutt, Ward would win that fight convincingly. But of course, it could have been a better win if the fight was clean all throughout. I have just seen two worst headbutt fights recently, this one and Mayol vs Sosa, and both of them the victor deserved the win convincingly, but still it doesn't take out the fact that fighters should be mindful about the health of his opponent. The sport is already dangerous as it is.

Your going to see a very piss poor Kessler get beat by Ward. Your also going to see some nasty headbutts, a lot of hitting while holding and an awful display of refereeing

It was an excellent performance by Ward. You cannot take anything away from him. A true boxer. Watch out PacMan, Ward may be the new Pound 4 Pound once this Super 6 is through.

He wasn't swinging his head, no. But he was also not giving a crap where it went while he chased a KO. Ward was a wreckless slob over the last 5 rounds, and he should be better than that.
