Vegans! I wanna become a vegan later when I get older. Is it hard?

I'm 15 and I wanna wait until I am 18 to become vegan.
I'm a vegetarian now and I love it, but am I gonna miss cheese and milk?
:/

It can be quite hard, like when eating out. But still, it is great fun to eat other types of foods! You most definatley wont miss milk or cheese. There is soy milk, and tofu. They are quite delicious.

When I was vegetarian, I thought it would be really hard to go vegan too, until I started dating a vegan and eating whatever he was eating. I was SHOCKED by how easy it was and how much food I could still eat. It's completely different now from the way it was 20 or even 10 years ago. There are so many vegan products on the market...you don't hardly have to limit yourself at all these days.

As for eating out, if you don't mind international food you should still have a lot of options. Thai, Indian, Mediterranean and Ethiopian restaurants are always good places to find vegan food (and you may be living near more of them than you think) plus a lot of chain restaurants have options that are vegan or can be made vegan if you nix the cheese. Pei Wei, PF Chang's, Mongolian Grill, Jason's Deli, On the Border, etc. Papa John's veggie pizza without the cheese is vegan and it's great!

Now a days they have so many soy alternatives to cheese it makes it a lot easier, and there is always soy milk to replace the milk, which personally I enjoy. it's all preference though, you may miss the real thing, I know eating out is very difficult unless you go to places that specialize in vegan cuisine. Both of my boyfriend's sisters are vegan, one is 18, and the other is 21, and I find them making a lot more of their food then buying it.

I say do whatever you are comfortable with, you don't have to be vegan, it's a large life choice. Best of luck whatever may be your choice!

It takes time to become vegan, the best thing to do is transition to it. You should start replacing egg and dairy with vegan substitutes, such as soy milk or rice milk. You can try out lots of vegan recipes too.

It's difficult to find vegan cheese that melts, so I guess I miss that somewhat. But I would never go back to eating animal products, I'm much happier and healthier now than I was then.

I'm 14 and vegan and I love it! I am much healthier and happier now than I ever was before. I was a vegetarian for about a year before and I don't think you will miss cheese and milk. There are so many substitutes out there if you really want them, but I don't think you will have any cravings for them (at least I didn't).
