Christians: Remember the golden calf Aaron made? Does that event ring any bells?
Even though the Israelites used it in worship of the true God. He wasn't having it. Why? Any similarities with the cross?

To Muldah: I don't get your point in relation to this question. Jehovah did not bestow favor on the calf worshipers. So your observation promotes the question as to what is the difference between that event and the copper snake event. It doesn't answer THIS question. To Uncle Who: You seem to be denying the entire account. ??? I'm addressing people who DO believe the bible.

Aaron used the calf to worship Jehovah. But Jehovah anger blazed against them. Because it is not an appropriate means of worship.
Actually it has similarity with celebrations and holidays with pagan roots. Notice that Aaron after molding the calf declared it a feast for God (Exodus 32:5). But God didn't accept it. Same with holidays and celebrations today celebrated by those who claim to be Christians. Surely God is not pleased with those because they have pagan roots. It will not be accepted by God even if they declare it to be a feast for God. We must learn from the Israelite's example :-)
It is a tough question. Yet, let me quote from your link. This shows that aaron was really guilty of giving into the Peoples' demands, so they had the greater sin, they were the ones that wanted the idol in the first place: "The story is clear-cut and simple. Out of fear of the mob, or maybe, a temporary loss of faith himself, Aaron showed no resistance to the people's request. He didn't seek to persuade them of the error of their ways." Also, note that Aaron makes the statement in exodus 32:5, after they made the calf, that "Tomorrow there will be a festival to the LORD." . So he must have been feeling guilty and wanted to placate the lord. It's interesting that historically Israel, while worshipping idols, also worshipped the Lord, just as Aaron set the precedent. We too, whether Jewish or christian, need to learn not to worship idols, while at the same time attempting to worship God. These idols might be money, power, sex, our own lusts, etc. But evidently aaron had a lot of favor from the lord!
Oh, yes. The Israelites made the golden calf with Aaron's direction and called it their God and savior from the Egyptians. It was so displeasing to Jehovah he was ready to do away with them all. His people, whether Israelites back then or Christians now do not use symbols and idols in their worship. This is the truth even though most churches use the cross and it is venerated by most religions calling themselves christian.
We were never instructed to place any significance in the object upon which Jesus was killed. It's so stupid, like venerating a gun because that's the weapon used to kill our child. It's idol worship to make such a loathsome thing something of adoration, even to the point of wearing a symbol of it or making it prominent in our worship.
