Jehovah's Witnesses & other Christians: How does the bible say that Jesus & his apostles celebrated Christmas?

Since Christ is our exemplar, what example did he set for the celebrating of his birth?

Hermininio: Jesus converted water into wine at a "wedding feast".

bluepeahen: Re-read your answer. Then mull it over. Key words: Jesus, Jew, christmas, Jesus so-called birthday.

Miss Mermaid: Same advice as to bluepeahen. Most people who celebrate birthdays, celebrate THEIR birthdays. Does the bible speak of Jesus or any other true worshiper celebrating their or someone else's birthday?

Miss Mermaid: Sorry, I misconstrued your answer!

Even though the birth of a baby has always been a cause for much joy, the Bible makes no reference to a birthday celebration for a servant of God. (Psalm 127:3) Was this simply an oversight? No, for two birthday celebrations are mentioned—that of a Pharaoh of Egypt and that of Herod Antipas. (Read Genesis 40:20-22; Mark 6:21-29.) Both events, however, are presented in a bad light—especially the latter, which saw John the Baptizer beheaded. “The early Christians,” notes The World Book Encyclopedia, “considered the celebration of anyone’s birth to be a pagan custom.” The ancient Greeks, for instance, believed that each person had a protective spirit that attended the person’s birth and thereafter watched over him. That spirit “had a mystic relation with the god on whose birthday the individual was born,” says the book The Lore of Birthdays. Birthdays also have a long-standing and an intimate link with astrology and the horoscope. Besides rejecting birthday customs on account of pagan and spiritistic roots, God’s servants of old likely rejected them on principle as well. Why? These were humble, modest men and women who did not view their arrival in the world as so important that it should be celebrated.* (Micah 6:8; Luke 9:48) Rather, they glorified Jehovah and thanked him for the precious gift of life.*—Psalm 8:3, 4; 36:9; Revelation 4:11. At death, all integrity keepers are safe in God’s memory, and their future life is guaranteed. (Job 14:14, 15) Says Ecclesiastes 7:1: “A good name is better than good oil, and the day of death is better than the day of birth.” Our “good name” is the good reputation we have gained with God through faithful service. Significantly, the only commemoration commanded for Christians involves, not a birth, but a death—that of Jesus, whose excellent “name” is the key to our salvation.—Hebrews 1:3, 4; Luke 22:17-20.

Jesus said to his apostles when you go into the city you will see people celebrating the festival of putting lights on trees do not concern yourself with the custom but go about your business! Jesus did give his opinion about Christmas then called the tree light festival. He said don't concern yourself with it. Go about your business. If you want to have a day for jesus birth I don't have a problem with that but his birthday is November 6 the day before roman tax weekend...oh read the Bible it tells you they went to pay the tax and Mary went into labour the inns were full became it was tax weekend the peoples custom was to go pay the tax and their was a food and wine feast like Russian voters day, we know jesus birthday! The bible tells us! They would have arrived about midday Friday and jesus would have been born about 3 am sat morning when the planet Venus is a bright pointing star in Bethlehem..

Jesus was born in September, not December. The idea of Christmas is just a Christianized version of the pagan festival for the winter solstice. In the bible it is never mentioned nor shown that Christmas was ever celebrated even to the point Jesus said "woe to those coming into this earth." Also In 245, the theologian Origen of Alexandria stated that, "only sinners (like Pharaoh and Herod)" celebrated their birthdays.

Jesus was baptised at the age of 30 years.
He was 33 years and six months old when he was murdered.
This happened in the beginning of April (He was mocked by having 1st April as Apriol Fools Day)
So, take off six months from April and you get to October - when he would have been 33 yrs old.

Why then 25th december?

Regarding the date when Christmas is celebrated, the Catholic newspaper said: “The real date of Jesus’ birth, from the historical viewpoint, lies concealed beneath a veil of uncertainty as regards Roman history, the imperial census of that time and research in the subsequent centuries. . . . The date of 25 December, as is well known, was chosen by the Church of Rome in the fourth century. This date in pagan Rome was dedicated to the Sun god . . . Although Christianity had already been affirmed in Rome by an Edict of Constantine, the myth of . . . the Sun god was still widespread, especially among soldiers. The above-mentioned festivities, centred on 25 December, were deeply rooted in popular tradition. This gave the Church of Rome the idea of impressing a Christian religious significance on the day by replacing the Sun god with the true Sun of Justice, Jesus Christ, choosing it as the day on which to celebrate his birth.”

Christmas, or the Nativity, was not celebrated by early Christians. One encyclopedia says about this: "The celebration was not observed in the first centuries of the Christian church, since the Christian usage in general was to celebrate the death of remarkable persons rather than their birth." The Bible links the celebration of birthdays with pagans, not with God's true worshipers.—Matthew 14:6-10.

This does not, of course, mean that it is not beneficial to learn and remember the actual events involved in the birth of the Son of God. The factual Bible account provides important insights and lessons for all those who want to do God's will.

"I have never been able to reconcile myself to the gaieties of the Christmas season. They have appeared to me to be so inconsistent with the life and teaching of Jesus."—Mohandas K. Gandhi.
