I am looking for a cookie reciepe from the late 40's to early 50's?
When I was young we made a Cookie called Starlite Mint surprise. You used a Rockford mint wafer ( they don't make these any more) and wrapped dough around them, placed them on the cookie sheet and topped with a Pecan. I would love to find the dough recipe for this as I can substitute a different wafer I have found. I think they where baked at 325 but really don't remember. They where such a good cookie, but have lost the recipe for them. I would love to have this child hood memory back.
1. 1 Sift together the flour, baking soda and salt and set aside. 2. 2 Cream together the butter and Crisco. 3. 3 Add sugars and mix well. Add unbeaten eggs, water and vanilla and mix well. 4. 4 Blend in the dry ingredients and mix well. 5. 5 Chill dough. 6. 6 Open and unwrap the chocolate mint wafers (Eight O'Clock or Andres) 7. 7 Enclose each wafer in about 1 Tablespoon of dough and top each cookie with a walnut half. 8. 8 Place on ungreased baking sheet about 2 inches apart. 9. 9 Bake in moderate oven (recipe says 375°)for 10-12 minutes. You might consider a moderate oven to be 350°.

* 3 cups flour * 1 tsp. baking soda * 1/2 tsp. salt * 1 cup butter or margarine * 1 cup sugar * 1/2 cup brown sugar * 2 eggs * 1 Tbsp. water * 1 tsp. vanilla * Walnut halves * Mint wafers
Directions:
Sift flour, soda, and salt. Cream together butter, sugar, and brown sugar. To creamed mixture add eggs, water, and vanilla. Mix. Blend in dry ingredients gradually and mix thoroughly. Cover; chill at least 2 hours. To shape cookie, place 1/2 mint wafer (or 1 mint wafer if larger cookie is desired) between 2 slices of cookie dough. Seal edges. Place on greased baking sheet about 2 inches apart. Top each with a walnut half. Bake in moderate oven (375 degrees) for 10-12 minutes. Makes 4 1/2 dozen.
1/2 lb butter (2 cubes) 1 1/2 cup Powdered Sugar 1 egg 1 tsp vanilla 1 1/2 cup flour 1 tsp cream of tartar 1 tsp baking soda
Mix butter and powdered sugar, until smooth. Add egg & vanilla. Sift flour, tartar & soda and add to butter mixture. I usually refrigerate over night. (easier to roll out) I have a round cookie cutter that I cut out round "disks". I put a mint wafer (Ghuredelli Chocolate) between 2 round dough pieces and bake at 375.
