Happy birthday Michael Stipe: Whats your favorite song from REM?
John Michael Stipe is celebrating a birthday today! He was born January 4, 1960. Michael Stipe is an American singer who is the lead vocalist for the alternative rock band R.E.M.

Stipe has become well-known for the "mumbling" style of his early career and for his complex, surreal lyrics, as well as his social and political activism. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KA57Pafq_NU Radio Free Europe

I have been a long time fan of REM and even had the chance to spend two days as an extra for the music video "Drive". Spending two days being hosed down in insect infested swamplands with the band was a thrill that I'll never forget. Drive was the first single from the album Automatic for the People, which remains one of my favorite albums of all time
Happy 50th Birthday Michael thank you for your integrity and for so much beautiful music

50? I hope the midlife crisis results in R.E.M.'s most interesting album in fourteen years. lol
Seriously, though, I love Michael. He's an icon! "Nightswimming" was my favorite song by any artist or band for a few years in high school. It almost brings a tear to my eye.
More obscure Stipe fact: he executive produced the film Velvet Goldmine, based in part on Bowie's rise to fame and set in the London glam scene. It stars Christian Bale, Ewan McGregor (playing a character based on Iggy Pop), and Jonathan Rhys Meyers (as the Bowie-esque main character). If you haven't seen it, do!
Happy birthday, Michael, and I anticipate your next musical move!
Yes yes, happy bday my dear Stipe! I'll see you again in front row (as usual) as soon as you're on tour here ;) Been listening to your music for 21 years now. (I am 21)
R.E.M is one of my fav bands, so I cannot just name one song. I'd say that most of my favorites are on Automatic for the People. Everybody Hurts, Drive, Man on the Moon, Sidewinder Sleeps Tonight, The One I Love, and countless others.
