Does this sound like an alternator belt tension problem?

I was stuck in blizzard traffic yesterday with people moving way slower than they need to. I was driving a '94 Nissan Sentra XE standard tranny.

Every time I stop the lights in the car would dim and the radio would shut off. Then when traffic would move the power would come back on. Once I was able to drive freely I didn't have the problem.

It seemed that the alternator wasn't charging the batter when the engine was idling, but I'm not really sure. I just had the alternator replaced within the past year and I wondered if this could be a problem due to inaccurate tension on the belt.

BY CHANCE WAS THE DEFROST BLOWER ON HI WHILE THE W/S WIPERS, HEADLAMPS, BRAKE LAMPS, AND REAR DEFROSTER, AS WELL AS A FEW OTHER ACCS ON ALL AT ONCE? SOUNDS LIKE THE CHARGING SYS MAY BE HANGING IN THERE OK. BUT HEY-YOU MAY BE RIGHT-- SEEMS LIKE THAT BATTERY MAY BE A LITTLE LESS THEN IT SHOULD BE. CHECK THAT BELT, BATTERY, AND BOTH POS+ AND GROUND CONNECTIONS CAREFULLY...I ALSO WONDER IF THE ALT IS OF THE PROPER AMPERAGE.
HAVE A GREAT DAY

When you idle up and the lights brighten That is an indication the alternator/regulator are working.

I would suspect poor/dirty battery connections or a battery on it last lap?

1. ASAP - check the battery connections at both posts, don't just look at them, remove them and clean them.

2. Make sure the battery is fully charged (12.66Volts) and have it tested.

3. It sound like the battery is not charging - either to poor connections or because it is not taking a charge.

its no longer a mount. ask for a belt tensioner. or it may additionally be the loafer pulley. some tensioners have a a million/2 inch sq. frequently for insertion of a ratchet so which you would be able to launch the rigidity on the belt. some purely have a bolt on the pulley. if the pulley flops returned and forth actually, its undesirable. frequently while the loafer pulley is undesirable it gets noisy and could wobble badly besides. lots of the time its the tensioner nevertheless.

There should be some kind of light indicator around your speedometer area on your dashboard letting you know, or at least giving you clues about what may be dyfunctional in your engine. It might even be an electrical issue (EEWWW!)..Call your trusted local Mechanic and ask or go to a local Auto Part store and ask them, some of the workers there are knowledgeable about car mechanics and can help you out or at least come down to a few areas that might be the issue with your car engine troubles (which would not cost you an arm and a leg in the beginning before taking it in to the professional mechanics who do charge you over have of your soul to ge your car repaired and take away you well earned money).

could be your belt, well, the belt on your car ! not the one that holds up yr jeans !
it should be making a squealing noise though if it is too slack, or maybe the idel speed on the car needs increasing,
also, new alternators sometimes play up, because theyre not new, just reconditioned,
