My asparagus patch is 5 years old now.?

The stalks are as big around as a man's thumb. Is it desirable to transplant the roots, or leave them in place. Will I damage them if I do move them? I get fantastic pickings.

Asparagus should never be moved once it is established. Choose a permanent home for asparagus when it is initially planted. Don't ruin a good thing!

hi, Asparagus likes solar My soil is somewhat stable and that i did no longer do something to function to it. commonly planting asparagus contains a spidery root. the basis supplies a 300 and sixty 5 days or so beforehand of planting the seeds. besides, for planting the basis, you could dig a trench approximately 12 inches deep. positioned a pile of airborne dirt and airborne dirt and dirt on the backside approximately 3 inches extreme and unfold the roots of your asparagus over the little hill of airborne dirt and airborne dirt and dirt. Do all of them that way! conceal the roots with approximately 3 greater inches of airborne dirt and airborne dirt and dirt. whilst the shoots from the roots advance by, positioned greater airborne dirt and airborne dirt and dirt on them. till the shoots attain the best. Plant in a piece that may no longer too moist. I made that mistake and a million/2 of my asparagus drowned whilst the ditch crammed with water. do no longer anticipate asparagus til after 2 years!

Don't even consider trying to move them. At worst you could kill them all, even the ones you don't move. At best it will be another five years before any of them produce well again.

I wouldn't. You may damage them. Leave them where they are. If you want a different location, get more plants.
