Why I have to reboot my iMAC after disconnection the Camcorder, then reconnecting it.?

I have a iMac Intel Core 2 Duo running OS X 10.5.8 and when I have my Sony Camcorder connected via firewire, everything is fine. But once I disconnect the camcorder, then try to reconnection, the iMac doesn't see the Camcorder. I have to reboot the iMac before it will see the Camcorder connection.

Make sure the camcorder is turned off when you unplug it and before you plug it back in.
