Is Yahoo! Answers Politics section a great example of "group think"?

Hardly any in here utilizes truly original thought nor engages in meaningful, rational discussion. Most are nothing more than propagandists for whatever party or movement they claim to belong to, merely spouting off tired talking points from their favorite cable network pundit.

Also, I would not call what transpires in this boards as "group think" but rather "group FEELING" given that the majority of posts here are predominately emotionally-tinged and reactionary in nature. I would never denigrate either Orwell's or Huxley's literary legacy by comparing the downright asininity and utter ignorance that is prevalent in this section to their cautionary tales. For that, the film, Idiocracy, is a more accurate depiction of typical YA Politics automatons. At least the antagonists in both "Brave New World" and in "1984" demonstrated SOME amount of intellectual ability.

YA is interesting because with some exceptions, you get the views of other people. Some you can agree with, some give you pause, some are just thoughtless insults. But all have a chance to air views and ask valid questions about the views of others. We all have ideas and opinions that may get someone to actually think about their own train of thought and how it fits into the main stream of reasoning.
Each of us is unique in our thoughts and ideas, you might read something that makes you think, why didn't think of that or boy, that guy is really off the wall.
Another way to look at it I suppose is maybe group therapy for bored people.

Great question, grant. There are some people here who ask legitimate and honest questions, but they are all met with the same hyper partisanship that you've seen. There's no real point in asking legitimate questions on this board. You either have cheerleaders or doomsdayers for whichever policy or idea you discuss. This board reflects Only that anonymous people on the internet can talk a lot of trash. It doesn't represent the majority of Americans, who still absolutely want compromise and rational policies that help all Americans.

God yes. 95% of the people here can be split into two opposing groups with similar beliefs that make no sense, that they can't back up for legit reasons, but will spout til there dying day.
