There are various kinds of forces involved in chemistry. They can be classified as intramolecular forces, or bond energies, and intermolecular forces, which are forces of attraction between molecules.
The stronger of the two are the intramolecular forces which consist of covalent bonds. A bond consists of a pair of electrons attracted to two different nuclei. Covalent bonds are strong.
Intermolecular forces are weaker than covalent bonds. Intermolecular forces, also known as van der Waals forces consist of hydrogen bonding, dipole-dipole attraction, and London dispersion forces.
