My husband just hired an employee that mentioned after he was hired that he has a federal criminal past. I cannot find anything about the employee online. I searched the Federal Bureau of Prisons and found his release date in 1990. Where can I find out why he was in jail?

Why don't you let it be??? His acutal conviction is well over 20 years ago and depending on how much time he did... it might be close to 25 years ago when he was found guilty of whatever.
Since his crime happened before the information age on the mid-90's, you probably won't have any luck finding his crime/s/ online.
