Was Curling invented by an obsessive-compulsive Canadian housewife who insisted on sweeping her family’s pond?
I could have sworn Bob Costas said Curling was invented by an obsessive-compulsive Canadian housewife who insisted on sweeping her family’s backyard pond each morning..... anyone know if this is true?

I'm quite sure its origins are Scottish. I used to play it when I was a kid...but only after I finished shoveling and sweeping the snow from our pond leading to the drive-way in front of our Igloo...
. Edit -
Here I am at the 1992 'Canadian Winter Challenge' - "Snow Snorkeling" event, where I took home the Gold Medal... http://i246.photobucket.com/albums/gg97/rockitlauncher/SmileySnowSnorkeling.jpg .
Edit @ Glen...yep...I touched grass on that one fer sure!
I thought the same thing, but I was watching last night (Canada vs. Denmark) and it's very interesting. You just have to know the rules and how to play the game in order to understand what they're doing. Curling might not be athletic, but it's a game that requires strategy. :)
really. I am not joking... I am Canadian and I just walked in the door from playing curling. We lost, apparently we aren't obsessive compulsive enough.
So who else thinks that Norway (Men's Olympic team) deserves a medal just for their 'outfits'?
