What is the most bizarre thing you've seen lately?
Last night, we spotted a little grey gecko inside the house, and, terrified our cat would catch it, my friend picked it up in his hand and put it safely outside.
But in the process of catching the gecko, it dropped its tail, as lizards tend to do when threatened by predators.
I've heard of this defensive mechanism (known as autotomy - and thankfully, it's painless) but to actually witness a lizard's dropped tail madly writhing and squirming on its own was a most peculiar thing. It freaked the poor cat out, too - he just took off away from the surreal sight!
Have you recently seen anything just as bizarre?

This may sound ridiculous to some but to me it has and still remains a mystery of nature. I wish I had video taped the event because I believe I am the only human to have witnessed this phenomena.
It was in the latter half of the 1980's in Anaheim CA. I noticed that one of the main stalks of one of my gladiola plants was covered with aphids. Not a spotty coverage but packed so tightly that it would have been impossible to get another aphid in between them. This coverage covered about 18 inches of the stalk. They were all packed in the same way head toward the stalk, rear ends pointing outward. Suddenly all of them raised their fannies at the same time, not as a wave starting at the top or bottom but all at exactly the same time. This told me that somehow there was some type of communication between them, otherwise they could have never lifted their rears at exactly the same time. I watched them for a few minutes. They would lift for about 10 seconds then wait around 45 seconds, then lift again. They did this repeatedly.
In 1991 I met a Brazilian PHD who was on a grant at the University of Riverside studying the mouth parts of aphids. I was thinking he must know everything about aphids, but when I told him what I had observed, he was speechless. He had never heard of this phenomenon. I'm thinking I am probably the only person in the world who is aware of being mooned by a bunch of aphids.
LOL to the guy above me I hate Crocs too!!! the different day I observed this skinny center elderly guy in corderuoys sooo tight they appeared like corderuoy leggings lol. conversing of leggings, I observed this woman donning easy pink leggings for pants, no longer something ELSE. finally, i've got seen those new skirts the place a image of a "in the back of" with underclothes is stuff is imprinted on the returned of it, so once you're donning it, it seems...you already know, it certainly appeared genuine too UGh
I can think of a couple bizarre things from recent trips. One was when we went to Jordan last September. When we visited Jerash, a great Roman site, one guide told his group with a smirk that there would be music that was "not very local." In wandered some very Arab-looking men, dressed like out of Lawrence of Arabia, playing... bagpipes. Scottish bagpipes. We were so befuddled it took us a while to even notice what they were playing. It was Beethoven's Ninth! Then ten minutes later, our guide "recommended" to us that we forgo our trip to a famous desert castle. Two feuding Bedouin families were having a shootout there, because a guy from one family had insulted someone's wife.
In Thailand my sister got approached by a friendly monk practicing his English- "Hello! How are you today?" She responded pleasantly, and he asked, "Where are you from?" She told him America, and then his eyes bulged and he gasped- "Tiger Woods!" I also liked the sign explaining how to use a toilet. Apparently it's forbidden to squat on the toilet, to drink from the toilet, to take a shower with the nozzle that's next to the toilet, and to pour dangerous chemicals into the toilet. "Unability persons" were also recommended to use the "deformed" toilet. (I think I should post it on engrish.com) :)
If you want bizarre news stories, though, these are some of the stranger stories I've ever heard. The first one was so insane I didn't believe it, until many reputable news sources talked about it!
I've seen nothing recently that would qualify, and I'm not sure one could call it "bizarre", but certainly most unusual is this video of a lioness who adopted a baby orynx(I think it's called), instead of eating.
She treated as if it was one of her own cubs/kittens(whatever you call baby lions). It's entitled "The Heart of a Lioness:
Well...we all know about 2 girls 1 cup....that is actually more horrifying than it is bizarre....and also 1 man 1 jar is just sick.
How about this news article I read from today? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100218/ap_on_re_eu/eu_romania_obese_mom
BUCHAREST, Romania – A 25-year-old woman weighing 528 pounds (240 kilograms) gave birth to her first baby on Thursday in what one expert called a rare and risky case. "I wanted this child with all my heart, whatever the sacrifice," the Adevarul newspaper quoted the mother, Victoria Lacatus, as saying.
