This is a very good question, and one in which I don't believe anyone could ever answer completely. I posted a link below which gives a perspective, but doesn't address the issue of killing someone on duty. This is something you might want to discuss with a pastor, prefereably one who has studied the bible extensively. Go to at least three other pastors and see what their ideas are. And take it to God. I know there are many policemen who are christians, and I understand some other religions forbid entering into law enforcement or the military. Do that first and see what you can find out.

Cops won't usually have to shoot people. Holding up a gun is usually enough of a threat. If you do it would be in self defense or trying to enforce the law. I think it would be an exception. If you're Catholic you could always go to confession. I think you should go for it because God wants you to follow your dreams.
