The way, I understand Pool has a solids and stripes color. there is this open pool that means a decision who will get the solids or stripes.. you have to shoot your assignated color to one of the pocket that is nearest your ball with the dotted red white ball. and when you finish pocketed all your balls ,then you pocketed the # black ball, then you take over finished all the balls of your opponents until the table is clear. Is billiard the same play you shoot your own assingnated ball first or any ball? I would like to learn this sport, and thank you in advance.

Billiards is specifically referring to the game of carom pool, played on a table with no pockets and 3 balls, however the word is often used interchangeably with the term pool. Pool is a generic term for all games played on a table with pockets, and can also be called pocket billiards.
The game you seem to be attempting to describe is called Eight Ball. The term pool does not refer specifically to Eight Ball, it can be in reference to any game played on a pool table.
You have no idea of pool. I have been playing pool for 40 years and never heard of your game, sounds like a confusion of several games. 8 ball (Stripes and solids) is not the basic game, the basic game is Straight pool, any ball, anytime Billiards has NO pockets and only 3 balls, hit the cue ball into an object ball and bounce it off to the rail and carom it to the other ball. Go to any pool hall and join a beginners class or league.
I guess I grew up thinking they all were the same. There were allot of different games in both pool and billiard's and they were interchanged. Different billiards table for different games. Snooker, really my favorite, but only found in smokey pool-halls in the 1960's where I grew up. When a new pool-hall came too town in the early 1970's, I believe it was called "ON CUE", they had several pool tables and some were larger tables with smaller pockets for snooker. Regular pool as I called it, was a standard pool table and called 8 ball. I know there were other games. I looked it up also and found more information from the experts. I hope it helps.
