Why does my dog pee every time I put a leash on him?
My dog is really excited about taking a walk (which we do 2-3 times per day), and he pees on the floor EVERY TIME i put the leash on him. It is difficult to correct this behavior because it is simply excitability. What do I do?

he's a jack russell cocker spaniel mix. Both breeds are excitable and have bladder issues.

Practice putting on the leash and walking him inside. He's associating the leash with going outside. Make sure not to wait until he actually has to go before you put it on but throughout the day at different times so he doesn't know exactly when you will be going out.
Start picking the leash up and putting it down if he shows any interest. Move it about the house and don't even try to put it on until he's calm. Call him over, if he gets excited when you put it on him, take it off again and leave it until he's calm, then try again. Don't worry about taking him out until you're happy, apart from what's necessary, he'll get plenty of exercise doing this! Practice walking on the lead indoors.
Get hold of "The Dog Listener" by Jan Fennell, this help you to calm him in all areas of behaviour, you'll just need to be consistent and.....patient!
Try not to allow the dog to become excited, make it sit, and do not put on the lead until it is sitting and calm. Try to stay calm yourself, cos your excitement/anxiety/stress will be picked up by the dog. When you have the dog sitting and calm, that is the time to then proceed to the door. You might like to try this outside of the house to avoid those little accidents.
