When did the Church of England actually become Catholic? And what is the story behind it?
What is the story behind the church of england being founded as catholic? And if that's wrong can someone correct me?

Church of England split from the Catholic church. Henry the VIII wanted a divorce and the pope wouldn't allow it so he started his own church with himself at it's head.
Interestingly, England is one of the few countries where the executive of the state is also leader of the church.

It's not Catholic. The Church of England (Anglican) separated from the Catholic Church at the time of Henry VIII. He made himself head of the Church, and refused to listen to the Pope anymore. At that point he created the Anglican faith, and left the Catholic Church.
However, recently, and Anglican Rite has been added to the Catholic Church. This means that under the authority of the Pope and the Catholic Church, there exists an Anglican Rite, that many Anglicans have become a part of. They accept the authority of the Catholic Church, and yet maintain their liturgical rites and practices.

The Church of England is "catholic" in the same sense that the Orthodox Church is catholic. Both have legitimate bishops whose authority derives from the early church. Neither is part of the Roman Catholic Church, though.
The English church was independent from Rome until the Norman conquest, which subjugated England to the rule of a foreign king and a foreign church (Rome). Fascinating history.

the church of england did not become catholic. what happened is that it was first the catholic church in england. when henry wanted to marry Ann Boleyn and applied to the pope to get a divorce and was refused. then he, with some urging, pulled away and formed his own church - the church of england- and married Ann. it went back and forth for a few times but in the end the separation was final.
that is what i remember just off the top of my head. read some old history books.

It was Catholic BEFORE it was the Church of England. That happened during the reign on Henry the 8th when he wanted a divorce. When he didn't get it he started the Church of England..
