What Can Be Done If A Dog Won't Eat Dog Food?
He was a stray dog but was rescued and adopted and will not eat dog food. Opinions?
He is not sick and has been checked out. He likes human food but not dog food.

Make sure you are feeding a high quality food. Measure out the amount he should be consuming per day. Split the amount into two meals. At his mealtime, put the measured amount into his dish, add a little warm water to enhance the aroma, call him over and put the dish down. Stay with him. In 15 minutes pick up the dish. Toss out whatever he didn't eat or feed it to the other dogs. In about twelve hours give him another meal. Pick it up in 15 minutes. He will begin to eat.
A high quality food can be found by reading labels and using "high five". The first ingredient is a meat. The next four ingredients are vegetables, maybe grains, and maybe a second meat. There is no by-product, corn, or wheat in the top five ingredients.

What is all you can do is just take your dog to some nearby veterinary doctor ... He is the only one who diagnose the problem in a proper manner as it should be done ....
As far as i am concerned ... Your dog is kinda not good with the location .. Even my dog was also at first not adapting to the location to eat the food regularly .. What we did was , we just let him to be on Complete Milk and water Diet for 2 Days and later It started being so Hungry and we started with some dog foods ...Right now ...Whenever i get him some dog foods ,it goes really so crazy about it ....So dont worry , it will be normal for your dog soon ... And sooner your dog will also be like mine ... :)
So i hope it would be nice if you could try my method if your dog is not sick .. But if it is sick or you think it is sick ... I strictly recommend you to better take it to a veterinary doctor asap ...
Hope my above tips was really helpful to you to some extent .. And hope my method works out well with your dog also...
Hope your Dog gets Well soon ...
Good Luck ..

My dog considers his collar as his possession and something he likes wearing. like a human with an article of clothing or jewellry. My dog does not need a muzzle as he is gentle and kind. I do not make him perform silly tricks and I dont make him go hungry. he does not live on scraps either of food or affection. he is appreciated as a personality in his own right and loved as a member of the family. His dignity as a dog is respected. If a man was a dog and wanted to be my best friend he would not have to have a Rover eye for other Lassies, he would need to know the meaning of Fidolity, he would not Rex the house and he would be prepared to lick my face.

I adopted my dog and she still to this day doesn't eat dog food, but will eat meow mix cat food, so I feed her that and sausage bacon chicken hamburger, basically what I eat she eats and she's never had any health issues and always been quite regular in restroom terms...

My dog wouldnt eat her dry kibble, so we fed her meat. We warmed it in the microwave and sometimes added bits of cottage cheese or shredded cheese, she loved it. Sometimes we add a small of worcesther sauce. We often feed her mashed potatoes with gravy and chicken fried steak, or some plain macaroni noodles with cooked hamburger meats and throw in some steamed broccoli, green beans, and carrots she loves that.
Take the dog to the vet to make sure it isnt a health problem causing it to not eat.
Also some dogs enjoy canned meats for babies mixed with cream of wheat.
You can mix dog meat or dry kibble in with the food. People food isnt as good for dogs as dog food is, but at least it keeps them from starving and keeps their weight on.
Fruit is sometimes good in small amounts as a snack.
Dogs can also eat plain boneless skinless chicken breast mixed with either brown or rice white. Its also great for their stomachs. They enjoy beef liver too. A little bit of salmon is okay. And oatmeal is also great for the stomach. Find out what he was eating at the shelter you adopted him from.
