Not in Chile. Peruvians in Santiago (those around Plaza de Armas) are still seen as job robbers and not respected. I will be very glad if there is such a campaign, no one deserves to be treated without respect....Show more

"Net project aims to boost Indigenous respect"

A national campaign to promote greater respect for Indigenous Australians has been launched in Sydney today.

Australians for Native Title and Reconciliation spokesman Phil Glendenning says the campaign involves people signing up over the internet to learn more about their local Indigenous community.

Mr Glendenning says ignorance can often fuel negative stereotyping about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in the wider community.

He says its hoped once people learn more, respect will follow.

"We can't just leave it to government to legislate for an end to racism or an enhancement of respect," he said.

"It's something that all of us can do something about - everyone can make a difference."

"Indigenous people are the canary in the mine with regard to the social health of the whole nation. By any measure we've got a long way to go.

"We believe a fundamental starting point is to encourage Australians to support this respect campaign and work for a better future."...Show more
