I don't have a dryer so I'm hanging stuff on the clothes line but I have some dryer sheets left from when my dryer was working.
Before I finish up here I would just like to say that I did not put those thumbs down. Some kid is putting thumbs down on peoples answers.

No dryer sheets do not work in the washing machine. Yes they smell nice but are also meant to keep your clothes from static cling in the dryer.
You can always just by fabric softener which is meant for the washing machine.
You can use those left-over dryer sheets for things like dusting, placing in your dresser drawer to keep a nice fresh smell on your clothes, place a sheet in your running shoes to keep them smelling good as well, etc.

the difficulty with doing it that way is that maximum dryer sheets function softner it rather is meant to evaporate, no longer dissolve. you may land up with them doing the two no longer something in any respect or basically making a multitude. i'd recommend using some white vinegar as against softner. If it rather is a outstanding loader, upload it after the wash cycle is thru. If it rather is a front loader, use a mixture of one section vinegar (ensure that it is white) and one section water and upload it to the softner tray. i'd additionally ensure which you do carry close the garments up at night so they dry slowly in the cooler air and take them down as quickly as they're dry in the morning. that should evade them from getting coarse. sturdy success.
