did the vet prescribe too much clavamax for my cat?

I took my cat to the vet on Wednesday where he was diagnosed with a bacterial infection he has some scratches that got infected so the vet prescribed clavamax 125 mg twice a day but since my cat has been on it he is acting really lazy and not even wanting to stand up to eat but he will eat if I tip the bowl over to where he can get to it. Everything I have read online says to give him 6.25 mg per pound and he only weighs a little over 12 pounds is that way too much medicine for a cat his size?

The vet said to give him one pill twice a day.

YES. go back to the vet or call his office and confirm. If its making him so weak and tired theres something off, or it cud be the infection is spreading. Make sure he eats though to let the medicine work. Callthe office and let them know how the cat is acting. Does the medicine have any side affects like sleepiness, drowiness or dizziness? check the labels or research it online. If its too strong it cud damage his organs

Clavamox is amoxicillin and another antibiotic mixed together and probably shouldn't make your cat so lethargic. It is probably more likely the infection that is causing it. HOWEVER, since the dosage is twice the normal dosage, it could be causing side effects. Are you sure the instructions were for the whole 125mg twice a day? If it's tablets, did the vet maybe say to give HALF a tablet twice daily? No matter what is causing it, you really need to follow up with the vet Monday. Your cat isn't lazy. Your cat is sick. He may need a different antibiotic. It's possible that the vet doubled the dose on purpose due to the severity of the infection, but you need to know that. Definitely keep your cat eating. But also be aware with the antibiotics, he could get diahrrea. Make sure he gets canned food to avoid dehydration. Good luck to you and your cat!

My vets had me use a human little one laxative (liquid) known as Colloxyl on a kitten with a significant continual constipation problem. Long tale so I would possibly not bore you with too many main points instead of it was once because of being taken from his mum at 3 weeks and fed god most effective is aware of what for per week earlier than he was once dumped at my vets premises on deaths door step. There are many explanations he would be in anguish however I could be considering the identical factor as you. Did the vet do an x-ray to make certain your cat did not have a intestine blockage?? I could be insisting that the vets did this and ONLY charged for the x-ray and meds. Definately refuse to pay session expenses as that are supposed to had been performed at your consult with. Can you get keep of any human parrafin oil? If you'll syringe 2ml into the again of his mouth over the tounge. The most secure oils should you can not get little one laxative or parrafin is olive or sunflower, however take care to not get it in his lungs, as you're going to must syringe or dropper it into his mouth. If he begins to exhibit relatively critical anguish, panting, top temp, spaced out or turns into relatively verbal, search an emergency vet, intestine blockages and different harm to their insides can also be deadly. Also after they take a nasty flip they are able to move down hill VERY swiftly.
