Duke- I see that you enjoying being a douche more than intelligent discourse. I suppose your solution is slavery for everyone you disagree with and the ability to shoot Mexicans. That should fix all the problems

Promoting an ethic of working together for the good of the community, either local, state or national isn't going to win any elections. Modern marketing techniques have shown that the negativity will result in larger campaign contributions and election gains. Until the American public stops treating politics like a TV show, it won't stop.

Because US politics is in the form of the Two Party system, in which no other parties stand any change to have a say. Libertarian, green party, independent, etc parties have little, to no say. That leave the Democratic and Republican parties in the US. With both having such opposing beliefs and ideologies (at least some of the core beliefs), it is hard for anyone to claim true independence from either party. Socialist party members and wrongly grouped with the democratic parties, while independent thinkers who embrace even 1 conservative ideal are grouped with conservatives. It is a sad system, but people choose to keep it this way because it "works".

Curiously nobody said a peep about working together when the Dems. were blasting President Bush for 8 years. I tell you what, wait until there is a Rep. Congress and White House and then we'll work together.

You are very right. Political positioning makes enemies of people for no good reasons. The politicans laugh all the way to the bank.

I am with you, we should do away with the Parties all together and vote based on the issues, we should also be able to fire them by majority vote, and vote whether or not they get raises
