Lazy stepkid got the car stuck last month. Of course its not "his" fault, but it came back with no reverse, and a burnt smell in the trans fluid. Its a 41 te trans. In a 99 cirrus. I have learned enough that destroying the reverse band wont kill a 41 te. But can I still save this tranny with a band adjustment for the reverse gear? All help welcome

A 41TE has a low reverse piston so no band. But try changing the oil and drop the valve body to clean as much fluid as you can. Clean the cooling system for it. Clear the codes and do that a few times and you may be ok. Good trans. But not a trans that uses and bands. Hard to break them mechanically. You can drill a hole in the torque converter and drain it. Tap a new pipe thread.

Did this in simple terms start up at this oil substitute? if so, appears like a foul, restrictive oil clear out. Do they alter the oil clear out? Is is historic and clogged? i'm hoping no longer... it would idle luckily around seven hundred-900 RPM (my wager at RPM, might desire to be off slightly).
