If you have the antibody against the C (core) protein of the Hepatitis B virus, it means you have been exposed to the virus. If you have the antibody against the S (surface) protein, it means you are immune, either because you were exposed to virus and your body killed it off, or you were given the vaccination against Hepatitis B, which results in production of the anti-S antibody.
Positive for antibody against C protein = was exposed to virus, may or may not still carry it.
Positive for antibody against S protein = immune to Hepatitis B, from infection or vaccination.
