Where should I apply for jobs with my degree?

I asked a similar question to this one a few minutes ago but got a bunch of answers that were just advertisements for B.S. loan companies. I am not interested in a loan, real or fake!

I am a recent college grad (July 2009) with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. The college I attended had a limited number of spots available to Seniors for field work and/or internships. I applied twice to get into that "class" and each time I was told my name was further down the list and I just missed the cut off. Ugh! Well, I just literally could not afford to stay in school one more semester for that class, so I graduated. Now the problem I am having is that every job I find wants at least one year of "professional" or "work related" experience. I don't have any job/work experience in my field. Is my college degree considered professional and/or work experience? I have applied to places wanting this experience and not received a single call back. My loans are now due so I need paid work; unpaid internship just won't cut it now.

I have applied for other jobs that are unrelated to my degree/major, but I'm told that I am either overqualified (cashier, server/waitress, fast food worker) or under-qualified (human resource management, social worker,).

What am I doing wrong? What can I do to convince the places like Burger King to hire me anyway? I mean, I need something, anything now just to be able to pay the monthly payment on my loans!

The job market is tight, and a degree in psychology doesn't really prepare you for a career - it's more of a self-enrichment degree. To do anything in the field, you'll need to get at least a Master's. Social work jobs require a social work degree, usually a Master's also. HR would probably require a degree in HR. Places like Burger King don't want to hire you because you'll obviously be looking for something better and won't stay.

Maybe you should look into jobs such as administrative assistant, if you have any office skills. Pharma companies sometimes hire psych majors as reps, if you would like sales. It's probably going to take some digging and widening your focus a bit to find something. Does your alma mater have any job search services for alums?

Good luck to you.

you will might desire to bypass to graduate college or your mum and dad have been precise. there is rather no sturdy activity course for a BA in psychology, you could desire to have a graduate degree to do something significant interior the sphere.
