I own a home in NJ and in FL. Can I buy my health insurance in FL where the rates are lower?

I can purchase the same type of health insurance in FL for half the price of what it would cost me in NJ and my doctors or in both plans so I wouldn't even have to switch drs. Can This be done?

Yes you can buy insurance policy in Florida but they may not pay a claim on a New Jersey doctor. If they do pay on a claim from your New Jersey doctor it may be at the Florida rates leaving you more to pay.

Only if you actually live there. Not if you just own real estate in which you do not live.

There are several advantages to becoming an official Florida resident and no longer being a resident of NJ, such as:
1. Decreased income tax
2. Bankruptcy laws related to primary residences in Florida
3. The health insurance issue that you mention
4. Discount tickets at Disneyworld for local residents

If you spend approximately 1/2 your time in each place, you may wish to consider spending slightly more time in FL, in order to qualify as a resident.

what do you mean you won't have to switch doctors?
any insurance plan that covers Florida is only going to pay for services for doctors and hospital in THAT area, NOT New Jersey - if the cost are lower, then the coverage and doctors/hospitals covered cannot possibly be the same and buying a single policy on the open market is always going to be more expensive than a company group plan - no 2 policies that cover the same procedures and same geographic area will be 50 different - it just doesn't happen - my companies insurance in Penna has gone up 55% in the last 2 yrs for a 200+ employee plan

you better make sure you are not committing Insurance Fraud - or you wil end up in jail like those guys on the Billboards

You have to LIVE in Florida in order to take advantage of this situation. The rates on insurance are less expensive in Florida because health care costs are lower in Florida. You aren't going to get the benefit of Florida's lower rates if you obtain your health care services in New Jersey, where they are considerably more expensive.

Yes. HOWEVER. You'll have to use FL doctors, a FL mailing address, and show a FL driver's license. Plus, it won't be compliant with NJ laws.
