Amongst other places and things, he discovered Van Diemen's Land (later renamed "Tasmania" in his honour) and New Zealand. This was 140-odd years before the crims and sheep arrived en masse. :)

That Aussie-land was full of Sheep, Black-fellas, and Criminals, and was uncomfortably hot and out of the way. But, there he was. What's a great wanker like him to do. No wonder we couldn't keep a proper handle on the Empire.
