Should I attempt to travel with a baby on the Auto Train?
I am thinking about taking my 9 month old on with me on the Auto Train (which travels from Lorton, VA to Sanford, FL). It is a 17 hour trip that travels overnight. I would be traveling alone with her. I was thinking it would be easier than driving that distance with her. We are moving and my husband would be driving down the moving truck and towing his car, and our baby and I would put my car on the Auto Train and travel that way. But is this do-able? If I was to get one of those little rooms on the train would I be able to fit her pack 'n play in there so she can sleep in that? Anyone try this?

It is dirty. My friend and his family did it once and was roach infested in the private room they had. They wee digusted by the experience. With you small one, it could be another horrific experience. Good luck to you
Traveling with a baby is easy on the train. The train motion will help your baby sleep and being able to walk around and do stuff will make the time pass quick.
However, a roomette and a bedroom will not hold a pack and play. A family bedroom would if its only you and baby traveling, but the cost is insanely high for just the 2 of you.
I have a 2 year old and her and I fit just fine together in the lower bed of a roomette to sleep. I would price out your selected travel dates and see if having space for a pack and play is worth the extra possible hundred+ cost.
I traveled on a train from New Orleans to Chicago and people had babies on the train for a long amount of time and they were fine. I think it would be easier because you have your hands free on a train to hold her, if you were to drive and something is wrong you can't do much besides pull over delaying your trip more.
No reason why you couldn't. And it will be safer and more enjoyable for the both of you as well. The cost is really less than the ticket price, you need to deduct the cost of the gas you won't be buying. Have the hubby only put in the fuel he needs to get to SC, then stuff the tanks there. Good prices.
