Favorite Answer

x = arcsin(9)
or
x = sin^-1(9)

EDIT: Well of course sin(x) cannot be greater than 1 or less than -1. So I'm assuming that he just made up an example of this situation without knowing that. But if he really wants to find x for sin(x) = 9, well of that is not possible. otherwise if you want to solve for x for sin(x) = a where -1<=a<=1.

If sin(x) = 9, you and John are living in a completely different universe than the rest of us. In our universe, sin(x) cannot be greater than 1 or less than -1. There is NO value of x that will make sin(x) = 9. At least not in the universe in which I live.

You'll never have a sine value larger than 1

You can't find x since sin can't equal anything greater than or less than 1.

sin x can never take any value <-1 and >1

So this does not have a solution.
