How to make a pocket chart?

I want to make a large pocket chart/calendar to organize a set of chore cards (3 x 5 index cards with various tasks written on them) for my household, but I'm not 100% sure how to do it.

I was thinking of using construction paper and folding a pocket for each day, and then a larger pocket at the end of the "week" to place the cards as tasks are completed.

Any suggestions or ideas from parents or teachers who have done something like this? Any links to how-to's? Thanks.

I haven't made one. The durability would be an issue. Classroom use requires they be *very* durable. Construction paper rips very easily, I don't think I'd even use it at home, though you could use poster or "tag" board. It's much more durable, kind of like cardboard.

If I were going to make one, I'd use heavy duty canvas and plan for how many pockets you want. Say you want 20, I'd plan five rows of four pockets. If you want to have 3 x 5 cards, then I'd leave at least an inch between the individual pockets. So that would make the canvas approximately 24" x 48" , but you could play with the dimensions. You'll have to map out the plans, leaving for borders around the pockets. I would use clear plastic cut to size for the pockets and super-glue, making the contact as strong as possible. If you choose poster board, I'd still use super-glue for durability.

By the time you pay for all the materials, you may find that buying one from a teacher's supply store isn't that much more expensive and it would last much longer. This one is meant for classroom jobs and is $20. I think it would work well to just customize the jobs for household use. I think the supplies to make one could cost $20.

Hope this helps.

Here are some ideas. I agree that construction paper would be too prone to tearing. The seem to recommend library pockets and poster board. Here is a link:
