Can I plug my cat5 cord from my desktop into my laptop for internet use?
So I borrowed a laptop from work to "work from home". My IT guy said just take the ethernet cord out of my home computer (desktop) and put it into my laptop. Then I will be able to access the internet. Its a yellow cord that says cat5. The head of it fits into the back of my laptop in a socket with a picture of three small rectangles (in a pyramid shape) and the light on it turns green. But no internet! Ugh! Am I doing something wrong?

HI CAT LOVER
1ST YES THAT CAN BE USED FOR THE INTERNET YOU MIGHT HAVE IT DISABLED THOU
SO PLUG IT IN
THEN GOTO NETWORK CONNECTIONS RIGHT CLICK ON THE CONNECTION AND PRESS ENBALE
THIS SHOULD TAKE DIRRECT EFFECT IF NOT RESTART AND LEAVE IT ALL PLUGED IN
IN YOUR TASK MINI BAR YOU WILL SEE A MONITOR YOU MIGHT NEED TO REPAIR THE CONNECTION SO RIGHT CLICK ON THE MONITOR CHOOSE REPAIR
THIS SHOULD ALLOW YOU TO CONNECT TO THE INTERNET NOW PLEASE NEXT TIME INCLUDE THE TYPE OF LAPTOP FOR BETTER HELP AND MODEL # IF THIS DOSENT WORK FOR YOU JUST INSTANT MSG ME AT B108891037@YAHOO.COM AND I WILL WALK YOU THRU HOW TO SET IT UP PROPER REAL SIMPLE SHOULD TAKE 5 MIN'S
ALSO IF THAT LAPTOP HAS WIRELESS AND YOU HAVE A WIRELESS ROUTER YOU CAN JUST CONNECT LIKE THAT MOST ROUTERS HAS WIRELESS NOT ALL BUT INCLUDE MODEL# OF ROUTER TO NEXT TIME SO I OR WHOM EVER CAN WALK YOU THRU STEP BY STEP
you desire a router. fairly, you connect your internet from the wall on your router. The router could have everywhere from 4 to eight and much extra ports. Use one CAT5 to the workstation and one CAT5 to the laptop. you're "routing" the internet to extra advantageous than one pc.
