What's the best online game?

My friends and I wanna find some good online game to invest in this summer. Something for PC would be ideal, but Xbox 360 might work too. We've been thinking about Team Fortress 2, but I'd like a game with a bit more strategy instead of just run in and shoot as much as you can before you die. One of my friends was talking about Bloodline Champions, but I think you still need a beta code for that. And we don't really have the necessary free time for WoW required to get to the level where you can actually have fun playing PvP. So, in short, a game with strategy that doesn't take a lot of time to level up and that preferably doesn't cost a rediculous amount of money/require a subscription.

belive it or not team fortress 2 is a stratagy game. If you have enough friends for one team it will probably be the best game you have ever played. And most of the time when the other team tries to enter your base you will need a stratagy such as where to put the turrets or where you can tell your friends to stand and stuff like that.  Tf2 is not a game where you just shoot respawn shoot etc..

And for 360 i would suggest battlefield bad company 2, so far all you do in call of duty is run out get one or two kills, die and respawn. Battlefield is not one of those games if you have a good team!

ummm...what type of strategy? like FPS? cause tribal wars is a good strategy game with friends.
