chinchillas and room temp, i hear above 80 is bad and that worries me?

i haven't picked up my chinchilla yet but my girlfriends cousin is giving me a baby that i want but i read that they can not handle heat of above 80. thing is i live on the 4th floor of my apartment complex so the heat rises in summer and my place can reach 84 sometimes. (yeah and the a/c doesn't really work for whatever reason) so i was thinking of having it next to my sliding glass door because it's open and it tends to be cooler outside then in my house in summer. considering they don't have sweat glands i don't know how much that would help

is there any ways i can keep the area cool for my future chinchi? i don't have a problem spending the money to make sure it's okay. don't say a/c though because it just never seems to work

"The Chin-Chiller is a granite stone that naturally maintains a surface temperature below room temperature. This cooling quality of granite can help your chinchilla keep cool and comfortable and simulates his natural rocky environment. Made from solid granite, the surface is washable, safe, and sanitary."

Jessica; Why would you put it in the freezer if it stays naturally cool?

Hope this helped!

i don't think the sliding door idea is a good idea, you should put their cage in an air-conditioned room
and not next to a window ( cuz the sun will make them feel hotter ) and you should take care of them not
being hot, trust me i had a chinchilla and it passed away becaus of the heat , we didn't put it next to an air conditon and the window was always open (hot wind and sun, stupid saudi arabian weather XD)
good luck , chinchillas are really sweet animals , i'm sure you'll love it !
and buy two so they wouldn't feel lonly
and have fun !

they do have to stay cool and the draft from an open door or window is not good for them either. What you can do though is to invest in several chin chillers which is a flat piece of marble or granite that goes into their cage . keep the chillers in the fridge or freezer and change them out inside the cage often. if your chin gets to hot it will lay on the chiller to cool itself down.
